What originally drew you to IP/patent work?
I've always enjoyed understanding how things work and breaking down complex technical problems. Patent law felt like a natural fit: it combines deep technical discussions with legal reasoning and business strategy. I like that the job isn't just about writing patents: it's about helping innovators turn good ideas into valuable assets. That's what has kept me interested over the years.
How do you see AI changing patent practice?
I don't think AI will replace patent attorneys, but it is changing how we work in a significant way. Many of the repetitive, time-consuming tasks can now be completed much faster, freeing patent professionals to spend more time where they add the most value: understanding inventions, developing filing strategies, advising clients, and making complex legal and technical decisions.
Having used AI extensively in my own practice, I've seen how much it improves productivity. The key isn't replacing expertise, it's amplifying it. We're moving towards a future where AI becomes an essential tool in every patent attorney's toolkit.
What are you most excited to work on at DeepIP?
What excites me most is being part of a team building technology for patent professionals, with patent professionals. Having spent years in private practice, I know firsthand where the bottlenecks are and what makes a real difference in everyday work. Helping shape a product that thousands of patent attorneys use is a unique opportunity.
More broadly, I'm excited to contribute to how AI gets adopted in our profession. We're only at the beginning of that journey, and it's a fascinating time to be working at the intersection of IP and AI.
What does a Patent Solution Engineer do at DeepIP?
Quentin is a bridge between patent professionals and the product team. Day to day, he works closely with patent attorneys and IP teams to help them integrate DeepIP into their workflows, whether that's onboarding, training, or just understanding where they can get the most value from the platform. The other side is feeding those real-world insights back into the product. Since he comes from private practice himself, he can translate the daily challenges patent attorneys face into concrete product improvements. It's a mix of customer interaction, patent expertise, and product thinking, which is exactly what attracted him to the role.
